PORT-AU-PRINCE, Oct 30, 2009 (AFP) -
Haiti's President Rene Preval designated planning minister Jean-Max Bellerive as the new prime minister Friday after Haitian lawmakers ousted the government of Michele Pierre-Louis.
Preval informed congressional leaders of Bellerive's selection at a meeting at the national palace, Senate President Kelly Bastien told AFP, saying it would likely be swiftly approved "so as not to create a political vacuum."
"We should convene the Senate early next week for the ratification and the whole process should be completed before November 18," he said.
